This was a cake I made for a little boy who LOVES Angry Birds. I wanted to capture the main scene of the game which was the sunset, the red angry bird and king pig. My husband made the blue/purple rocks at the bottom and I cut out the grass with an exacto knife. The red angry bird was cut out of gumpaste and I used edible food markers to add the details. I did the same for the pig. The blocks are made out of brown fondant and put together with royal icing, let to dry for 2 days. For the background I cut out the shape of mountains and bushes out of styrofoam board. I colored the details with copic markers and I glued some green construction paper for the bushes.
Flavors are vanilla with raspberry cream filling.

Winnie the Pooh Cake
My longtime friend wanted me to make a Winnie the Pooh themed cake for her daughter's first birthday! So I decided to look online for a nice template to go by. I found a nice picture online and I printed it out. I put a white tissue paper on top of the print and traced the image with an edible food marker. I then put the tissue paper over fondant and re-traced the image. I cut the image out with an exacto knife.
I baked two 10 inch cakes. One was chocolate and one was vanilla. I torted and filled them with a raspberry and buttercream filling. Covered them with a crusting buttercream twice, then covered it with strips of light and dark green fondant. I wrapped a strip of fondant for the bottom and finished it with a fondant bow. Two pink flowers added that "girly" touch and I cut some purple letters out of fondant. I brushed the back of the pooh image with edible glue and pasted the pieces to the top of the cake! :) Tah-dah! a finished yummy Pooh cake! :D

Baby Shower Cake for Boy
This cake was a request from one of my friends. It's a topsy turvy cake with the word PRINCE on top and "Welcome Sweet Prince" on the bottom tier. The cakes are made with red velvet and frosted with vanilla buttercream and covered in homemade marshmallow fondant. I LOVED THE BOW! I saw a picture online and I decided to make my own! :) I cut 1x4 inch long strips of green fondant. Folded in half and glued the ends together with a bit of water. I let them dry overnight. The next day I painted on the blue dashes to make them look like stitches. All the letters are fondant.

Damask Wedding Anniversary Cake
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally received an order for a wedding anniversary cake! :D I'm moving on up lol! So this was to celebrate the couple's 7th year wedding anniversary! She requested vanilla cake with raspberry cream filling...if you haven't tried this combo....you need to! IT IS DELICIOUS!!! I handpiped the damask pattern...which took a while but it was well worth it...and
made a red gumpaste flower and the couple was also made out of gumpaste. I hand painted the words "feliz aniversario" with black food gels and clear vanilla extract. :)
Luau Hawaiian Theme Birthday Cake
This is a 3 tiered cake and it has different layers of vanilla, chocolate, and lemon cake. The vanilla cake has a pineapple filling. The chocolate cake has a chocolate mousse filling. And the lemon cake has a vanilla custard filling. I made six red hibiscus flowers which were pretty dang easy to make actually! What took a while were the kiddos on the cake. They were cartoon characters of her kids :D They loved the idea of "eating themselves" lol I love how much practice I've gotten from making cakes. You can tell I'm better at smoothing fondant ^_^ Not to mention the amount I save from making it myself at home! The stuff at the stores is EXPENSIVE! It's been really hot these days so on the way to the party, the fondant started bubbling out. I grabbed a toothpick....poked a hole...hid it with a leaf...and DONE! Nobody noticed :)
The Brony Cake
This is a "Brony" cake and from my understanding...it's a guy version of "My Little Pony". I thought it was a very cool idea! :) The cake is red velvet with strawberry cream filling. I covered the cake with white fondant. I used different colors of royal icing to create the image of the brony.
All packaged and ready to go :)

Father's Day Cake
This was just a simple cake my husband and I made for the dad's at our church. It was two layers of cake inside that were vanilla and chocolate with chocolate mousse filling and chopped almonds. I buttercreamed all the outside and added some fondant letters and a fondant classic truck. The details were brushed on with a mixture of food gels and clear vanilla extract. The outlines were piped with royal icing. I decorated the sides of the cake with chantilly lace. :)

Hello Kitty Cake (Fondant Cake #9)
I was so excited for this cake when my customer requested a Hello Kitty Cake. She also wanted animal prints so I decided to combine them both! :) I found an image online of Hello Kitty holding a cupcake so I thought this would be the perfect "Happy Birthday" Hello Kitty Cake :D I blew up the image on my laptop in microsoft word and printed two papers with half of Hello Kitty's head on one and her body on the other. I printed them out and taped them at the seams. Then I took some tissue paper and layed it on top of the image and traced with an edible food marker. I then took the tissue paper and placed it over some white rolled out fondant and re-traced the image onto the fondant. Then I piped the outline with royal icing! The cake was vanilla with a chocolate mousse filling. Happy Birthday Kari!

Rose Sugar Cookies
Instead of attempting to make another cake, I decided to spread my wings a bit and make some sugar cookies! These are an inspiration from Amber Spiegel's cookies. She's an amazing artist! Her blog is here: http://amberspiegel.blogspot.com/ Nothing like a nice sugary crunchy piece of art! I made these cookies using a regular roll-out sugar cookie recipe but I made a mistake and used powdered sugar instead of regular sugar. All this cake baking has tricked my mind into thinking powdered sugar is the regular....hah! I think that's why my dough came out a bit more sticky in consistency so I had to add more flour. All in all the cookies tasted great. My husband was a fan and so was my dad. I originally had 18 cookies but they slowly started disappearing before I could ice and paint them...I guess that's what you call a good-bad-thing haha! They tasted even better with the royal icing on top! I flooded the cookies with white royal icing and let them dry overnight. In the morning I handpainted some roses with food gels and clear vanilla extract. My mom said they were too pretty to eat :) Gotta love moms!

Paris Theme Cake #8
This is my fondant cake #8 and as you can see...practice has helped so much! My new favorite thing is painting on fondant with gel food colors. This cake was for a friend who likes pink and black and so I figured maybe something with a Paris theme would look cute. She loved it! I painted the word "Paris" in different fonts with light pink food coloring. I also painted the Eiffel tower with black food coloring and there's a pearl border to make it look like a necklace and a pink flower. The bottom tier has a lamp post with the number 22 for her birthday number. There's a handpainted chair and a lady walking her poodle and a bicycle. The cake itself is a vanilla flavored cake with strawberry filling. Took my husband and I about 9 hours from start to finish. :)

Safari Themed Cake (Fondant Cake #6)
This was my 6th fondant cake. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the bright colors. My husband helped me bake the cakes. They were vanilla cakes with a strawberry buttercream frosting. I couldn't make black fondant so I had to go to Joann's and buy some zebra sugar sheets. They are so handy! Too bad I didn't let the buttercream set enough because the sides were bulging out a bit. At least it was an even bulge HAH! For the top tier I bought some edible food spray and sprayed it with a nice red color. It turned a bright orange on the cake which made a very nice effect. The gumpaste flowers took a while to make but it was so worth it! I made one orange flower and the other two were yellow...then I painted the details on. The cake base was made with white fondant and I sprayed it with green food spray. It was so much easier than spending an hour trying to kneed fondant into that color! The name Kayla was made with a dark brown base and I pasted some lighter brown fondant squares on the top with piping gel (lemon flavored...YUM!) Overall it was very fun to make and Kayla loved it :)
Rose Cake (Fondant Cake #7)
The cake was vanilla with strawberry filling. I added food coloring to the batter to make the cake a light pink color. My friend loved it so much she didn't want to cut into it haha. Will be making more cakes soon! :)

How to Make Your Own Magnets
These magnets came as an idea to me when I was planning my daughter's first birthday party. I wanted to send my guests home with a little gift and I wanted it to be something that would last. So instead of making chocolates, I decided to use these chocolate molds to make my own homemade magnets.
Materials Needed:
1 cup Plaster of Paris
1/2 cup of Cold Water
A plastic bowl or a glass bowl covered with Plastic Wrap
Plastic Spoon
Chocolate Candy Mold
Acrylic Paints
Paintbrush
Magnets
Hot Glue Gun
Stick-on Diamonds or Glitter Glue
How to:
I cover a glass bowl with plastic wrap to make clean-up easier. I normally use plastic bowls but I didn't have any on hand.
This is the type of chocolate candy mold I use. It was intended to be used for chocolate pops so I covered the stick area with hot glue and let it dry. The plastic is thick so it didn't melt the mold.
I mix the Plaster of Paris and the cold water until it reaches a smooth consistency. It settles quickly so you have to work fast! Plaster of Paris can be found in any local hardware store.
I pour the plaster a little at a time and tap it in with the spoon to take out any air bubbles and to fill in all the spaces of the mold.
I fill all the molds with plaster and tap gently so that all the air bubbles work their way to the surface.
Plaster of Paris takes 15-20 minutes to completely set. After 20 minutes I flip the mold over onto a hard surface and gently tap. If any little pieces break off, you can always glue them together with super glue or Elmer's glue. Even though they are hard to the touch, they aren't completely dry yet, so I let them dry overnight.
Now the fun part begins! I usually apply two coats of acrylic paint first. I noticed that the paint dried quickly because acrylic paint is water based, and plaster of paris loves to suck up water. After the two undercoats dried, I used different colored paints to add details. I also had some rhinestones that I glued on along with some glitter glue that I applied. If you want to go an extra step you can apply modge podge for a glossy finish.
Once the paint dries, you can add a magnet to the backs with a hot glue gun.
I find that pastels are my favorite colors to work with. For the fine details I used a toothpick. The rhinestones and glitter are what makes them super cute! :) Enjoy!

Little Mermaid Birthday Cake #1
I've always been amazed by cake creations over the years but I've never had the guts to make a three tier fondant cake. My daughter just turned 1 in April so to take advantage of the opportunity and to save a few bucks, I decided to go for it. Her birthday theme was The Little Mermaid but I didn't want to overwhelm the cake with too many bright colors. I wanted nice soft pastel colors. So this is what I ended up with. I realized I made a lot of rookie errors after I finished, like I should have shaved down the sides of the cakes first before applying buttercream. Or adding a thicker layer of buttercream. The cake itself was vanilla with a nice silky buttercream. Everyone loved the flavor! I wish I could have taken pictures of the inside but I was so busy slicing and serving. The colors inside were purple, blue, and green. Well I sure learned from this experience and can't wait to do more in the future. Someone from the party already requested me to make a cake for them. Fingers crossed! :D
